The Lim Fjord is one of the most remarkable natural features in the Adriatic. This long narrow inlet stretches 12 kilometres inland from the sea, flanked by steep forested cliffs that drop to water of extraordinary clarity.
The Landscape
Technically a drowned river canyon rather than a fjord, the Lim channel was formed as the sea level rose after the last ice age. The result is a landscape of intense natural beauty, the dark green water contrasting with pale limestone cliffs and dense Mediterranean forest.
- 12 km long, 600 m wide at maximum
- Water depth up to 36 metres
- Home to one of Croatia most important oyster and mussel farms
- A protected natural monument
The Lim Fjord looks like Istria kept secret — this long quiet channel that feels like it belongs somewhere wilder and more remote.
Things to Do
Boat tours from the mouth of the channel offer the best perspective. Kayaking the full length is a memorable half-day adventure. The seafood restaurants at the head of the fjord serve the freshest oysters and mussels you will taste anywhere.
